Ok, if Germany wins and Serbia win, we play Serbia unless they score a ton of goals and pass Germany in goals.

If Ghana wins, we play the winner of Serbia/Australia.

If Ghana draws, they advance. If Ghana draws and Serbia wins, we play Ghana.


It breaks down like this:

If Ghana wins, we play teh winner of Serb/Aus
If Ghana draws and Serbia win, we play Ghana
If Ghana draws and AUS wins, we play AUS

IF Germany wins and Serbia wins, we play Germany.
If Germany wins and Serbia draws, we play Serbia.
If Germany wins and AUS wins, we play AUS.
If Germany wins and Serb/AUS draw, we play Serbia.

I am pretty sure about this, but not 100%

Currently the Group D standings:

Ghana 4 pts
Germany 3 pts
Serbia 3 pts
Australia 1 pt

If Ghana defeats Germany, they are the 1 seed, and the Serbia advances with a win or a tie. Australia would advance with a win.

If Ghana and Germany tie, Ghana is in. Ghana wins the group is Serbia and Austalia tie, or the Aussies win. Germany would be in in this scenario if the Serbia/Aussie game is a low scoring affair and no Serbia victory. If Ghana/Germany ties and Serbia wins, Serbia wins the group and Ghana plays the US.

If Germany beats Ghana, more than likely they are the one seed unless Serbia throttles Australia. If Germany wins, and Serbia/Aussie tie Ghana still needs to score as many goals against Germany as Serbia scores against the Aussies to advance. If Serbia scores 1 more goal, it will go to a draw. If Serbia scores 2 more goals than Ghana in this situation in a tie they would advance. If Germany and Serbia both win, Serbia must score at least 4 more goals than Germany to be the 1 seed.

Australia has little hope, but if they can win, and Ghana wins, Ghana is the group winner and Australia is the runner up. I think that about covers it.

I agree completely. Until breaking down the scenarios like you just did as well I thought the Aussies were basically eliminated, but that would be the best case scenario.

Nil-Nil in both games at the half. From the reports I am seeing on Gamecast they have been impressed with Ghana today.

GGGGGGOOOOOAAAALLLLLL Germany. 1-0 with 30 minutes to go. Still nil-nil in the Aussie, Serbia game.

Goal, Goal. The Aussies up 2-nil. It would be nice if Ghana could come back and win.

We will play Ghana Saturday at 2:30.

Yep, we drew Ghana, who IMO outplayed Germany for 60 minutes today, had all kinds of chances but could not convert.

Ghana might be better than Germany, so maybe we didnt get as good a draw as initially thought.

I was hoping that Ghana could come back and knock in a couple goals so we would draw Australia, but it didnt happen. Although the Aussies proved very tough, beating a very good Serbia team.

We will have motivation to beat Ghana as well, they put us out of the 06 cup.


Germany/England will be a dogfight as well, two teams that almost have to live up to impossibly high expectations and one will go home. England looked better today, but still very mediocre. In all honestly we have played way better than the UK but have gotten some raw deals. We should have tied with England (could have won if Altidore puts that shot in late), beat Slovenia 3-2, and beat Algeria 2-0.

But we still won the group, which is a HUGE feat. If we told people before the Cup started that we (the US) would win the group over England, they would have laughed in our faces.

Our team will never get outworked or outhustled. We aren't the most talented team nor are we the most athletic, but we will outhustle any team. The Confederations Cup showed that we can play with any team, including the elites.

It works out like this:
We play Ghana on Saturday. IF, and a huge if, we are able to beat Ghana, we draw the winner of the Uruguay/South Korea match. Neither of those two teams are more talented than us. Not saying we would def. win, but we will not be overmatched.

If somehow we made it that far, we draw the winner of the other side of the bracket, which contains Brazil, the Netherlands, Chile, and either Italy or Paraguay.

We got the easy side of the bracket. The Netherlands could play Italy in the 2nd round followed by Brazil if BRA beats Chile.

The real question is does biggin show up to watch us play Ghana? Or does he stay in East Stone? Everybody knows that Appalachia is the happening place in Wise County.
